A Scoundrel's Surrender
Jenna Petersen
Heat Level:

He was everything she'd ever dreamed of . . . And then he was gone.

It hasn't been easy for Marah Farnsworth to get over Caleb Talbot, the man who broke her heart. She's done her best, sequestering herself in the sleepy English countryside while convincing herself she'd be happy marrying someone else. And she's quite nearly succeeded—when she returns to London . . . and comes face to face with the man who abandoned her all those years ago.

Caleb believed he was doing the honorable thing when he disappeared from Marah's life. The shocking truth about his scandalous origins made him unfit to wed. But now, one glimpse of her has again lit a fire in his heart…and letting another man have her would be unthinkable. However, winning back Marah's love may prove the most difficult endeavor the handsome scoundrel has ever undertaken.

I thought it lacked spark.
Zeee from Los Angeles
Jenna Petersen weaves an enticing tale about facing your fears.

In "A Scoundrel's Surrender," Caleb Talbot finally comes home to spend time with the man he thought was his father who was ailing. He meets Marah again, while she was coerced to come to London by Victoria Talbot, Justin's wife and Caleb's half brother.

I really love the story of Victoria and Justin (Lessons from a Courtesan), so I was expecting something similar for Caleb and Marah, both were also mentioned in Lessons from a Courtesan. However, I was a bit disappointed. I think that Marah and Caleb's romance lacked more spark. I would have liked to see more conflict between the two and I was disappointed.

I would like to point out that I loved how she wrote the meeting of the three Billingham Bastards and their family. There were no long explanations but a subtle reintroduction of all three that I think, brought the whole series together.

All in all, it was an enjoyable read but not one of the best that Jenna wrote.
