Cold Touch
Leslie Parrish
Heat Level: 2 (Mild)

Since being gifted-or cursed-with the ability to touch a lifeless body and relive the deceased's final moments, Olivia Wainwright has died a hundred deaths. And every glimpse into this darkness draws her deeper into danger.

Though he doesn't believe in psychics, Savannah Detective Gabe Cooper offers her a glimmer of light. As their bond deepens, Olivia will have to choose between her cold gift and the warmth Gabe can provide. And Gabe can't refuse when she needs his help solving a crime that's haunted her for over a decade-her own murder.

In this tantalizing sequel to Cold Sight, the first Extrasensory Agent novel, Parrish weaves a tale of intrigue and desire in the smoldering heat of Savannah Georgia.

Barely surviving a horrible abduction at the age of 15, Olivia Wainwright now wields the gift of experiencing other’s deaths just by coming in contact with a dead body.  She only uses her abilities in the most extreme circumstances, and the discovery of a 12 year-old boy’s body is about extreme as it gets. This boy may have been the one she’s been searching for, the one who saved her life 15 years ago.

Detective Gabe Cooper doesn’t believe in psychics or hocus pocus—until he meets Olivia. Now they’re both on the case and Cooper only hopes that he can keep his thoughts focused on the tangled mystery behind the boy’s death, instead of the sexy woman working with him. As their emotions and relationship grow deeper, the stakes are raised with a trail of bodies in the path. The question isn’t so much if they’ll survive their feelings for each other, but if they will survive the killer determined to seek revenge.

Cold Touch may be light in the sensual department, but the story packs a whopping punch! The romantic tale doesn’t lose its edge though, and I was left hanging on the edge of my seat multiple times. I found the plot driving and the thriller/mystery aspect infatuating. This book is definitely a page turner and easily kept me intrigued.

Gabe and Olivia make a great team in bed and out of it, expect the in bed part is constantly under attack. One of my favorite scenes is where Olivia and Gabe are a getting a little hot; the cool down comes, with regret:

There was no way this could go anywhere, and he’d been crazy to even think about kissing her, much less doing it. He needed to remember that, and, if necessary, point it out to her as well. But not now. Not when he was here, in her bed, because she’d put herself through a horrific, painful ordeal and had fallen asleep in his arms.

An ordeal they had yet to even discuss. “I think we should…”

His words trailed off when he heard a door slam, then a voice calling from downstairs. Olivia’s eyes widened in surprise, and for the barest second he wondered if she’d forgotten to tell him she had a husband or live-in boyfriend lying around somewhere. Then he realized that the voice calling Olivia’s name was female.

“Livvie? Where are you?

“That’s my sister. She has a key,” she whispered, quickly rolling off him, then sitting up on the edge of the bed. “I’ll be right down Brooke!”

Gabe sat up, too, trying to stuff his shirt back into his pants and wondering where his shoes had landed. He’d kicked them off when he’d realized he would be spending part of the afternoon in Olivia’s bed with her. He sure hadn’t anticipated what would happen when she woke up from her much-needed sleep.

They probably would have been fine, could have gotten themselves put back together, if her sister had stayed downstairs.

She didn’t.

And it gets even more interesting from there.

The story does give you some good background and I have to admit I was surprised by the ending, at least finding out the killer’s connections. This book definitely fills in absent sensual aspects with a great story. The only issue I had was the epilogue, but this tongue won’t go a wagging. I still say if you need a good paranormal thriller, but don’t want to lose out on some romance Cold Touch is definitely the way to go!
