And seriously, what’s not to love? First we have one cranky, but oh so sexy hockey player—our hero, Mark Bressler—whose dreams of winning the Stanley Cup dies when a car accident leaves him near death himself and unable to play professional hockey again. To add insult to injury, his nemesis, Ty Savage (hero of True Love and Other Disasters) replaces him as captain and leads his team to victory. Ouch. That hurts.

Then there’s our heroine—the petite out of work actress Chelsea Ross with two-toned hair—whose twin sister gets her a job as Mark’s personal assistant. If Chelsea is able to put up with him for three months, she will receive a ten thousand dollar bonus (It appears, Mark has managed to run off more than a few healthcare workers in the past six months). And since Chelsea believes that the two major obstacles keeping her from being taken serious as an actress sit squarely—and too large—on her torso, she needs the money to have her double Ds reduced to a C.

The problem is Chelsea and Mark don’t like each other very much. She thinks he’s a jerk and he doesn’t like the way she dresses (her taste is definitely eclectic), but more than that he’s miserable and wants to be alone to wallow in his misery. He doesn’t need a health care worker, and he certainly doesn’t need a personal assistant cum babysitter. He insults her, he ignores her, but his efforts to get rid of her fail—Chelsea wants that 10 grand.

Slowly but surely, there is a thaw, a spark of attraction that develops into a blaze. Poor Mark, starts having sex dreams about her. Soon he can’t even look her in the face. One day, while napping, the dream morphs into reality. I absolutely love his reaction when he realizes he’s no longer operating in his dream. Talk about saved by the bell.

The bell rang once more, and Mark lifted his head and looked down into her face. His gaze moved across her face, down her arm and side, to his hand cupping her butt cheek.

“Shit.” He removed his hand and rolled onto his back.

Desire still pounding through her veins, Chelsea wondered if he’d meant “shit” because he’d had to stop. Or “shit” because he shouldn’t have started.

He raised one arm and covered his eyes. “Please let this be another nightmare.”

“You look—” His mouth on hers cut off her breath in mid-sentence. Like a lot of things he did to her last night, the kiss was a complete ravishment. Just as she was starting to get into it, he pulled back and said, “Don’t ever sneak out of my house again.”

She touched her moist bottom lip. “I didn’t sneak.”

“You snuck.”

He placed his hands on the sides of her face and looked into her eyes. “You’re not some woman I picked up at a bar, Chelsea. You’re not a one-night stand. Don’t sneak out on me.”
